Celebrate Open Education Week 2019 at Mitchell Community College (MCC), March 5-8, 2019.  Open Educational Resources (OERs) are educational materials and resources that are publicly accessible. They are openly available for anyone to use and are under Creative Commons licenses available to re-mix, improve and redistribute.  Below are the workshops that will be a "blast" to attend.

  • Tuesday, March 5, 2019
  • Title:  The Educator's Guide to Producing New Media and Open Educational Resources
  • Description:  Join us to discuss the Tim D. Green and Abbie H. Brown book, The Educator’s Guide To Producing New Media and Open Educational Resources. Topics will include producing and distributing digital video, audio, and text files to be used as Open Education Resources. Come and get hands on, practical instruction in various formats and media. 
  • Location:  Mitchell Community College's J.P. Mildred Huskins Library Computer Lab 
  • Time:  2:00 - 3:00 p.m.
  • Audience:  Distance Learning Book Club and other faculty members

  • Title:  Creative Commons Licenses
  • Description:  Faculty and staff can visit the Distance Learning Department to learn and discuss the Creative Commons licenses while enjoying a Creative Commons cupcake.

  • Title: What are Open Education Resources?
  • Description:  What are Open Education Resources? Come find out what OERs are and how they can be used to benefit you and your students.  We will show you practical examples that can be immediately incorporated into your courses. We will also go into detail on how to navigate some of the repositories out there that house the millions of resources you can take advantage of.

Open Education Week 2018

 

Celebrate Open Education Week 2018 at Mitchell Community College (MCC), March 5-9, 2018.  Open Educational Resources (OERs) are educational materials and resources that are publicly accessible. They are openly available for anyone to use and are under Creative Commons licenses available to re-mix, improve and redistribute.  Below are the resources that will be a "blast" to read and the Library's conferences. The resources will be posted on the Mitchell Community College's OER LibGuide. 

  • Monday, March 5, 2018 
  • Title:  OER Intro
  • Description:  Mitchell Community College’s faculty, staff and students will be notified through an email of the celebration of Open Education week.  The initial email will inform faculty, staff and students about open educational resources and the schedule of emails that faculty, staff and students will be receiving each day.

  • Title:  Open Education Week 2018 Website
  • Description: Mitchell Community College faculty, staff and students will be sent an email containing information on Open Education Week 2018.  The email will comprise of the Open Education Week 2018 web link, so faculty, staff and students can search/view/attend current projects and resources.

  • Title:  Discovering Open Educational Resources (OER) LibGuide
  • Description: Mitchell Community College faculty, staff and staff will peruse the Discovering Open Educational Resources (OER) LibGuide.  The libguide web link will be sent through email.  The libguide contains OER definitions, policies, resources, alternate textbook projects, and studies.

  • Title:  OER Movements
  • Description: Mitchell Community College faculty, staff and staff will be sent an email, which will include important OER policies and studies. . 

 

  • Friday, March 9, 2018
  • Title:  OER Crossword Puzzle
  • Description:  Mitchell Community College faculty, staff and students will engage in an OER Crossword Puzzle.  The OER Crossword Puzzle will be sent through email.  The OER Crossword Puzzle can be completed with the help of the Discovering the Open Educational Resources (OER) LibGuide.  Mitchell Community College faculty, staff and students can submit in their completed OER Crossword Puzzle the week of March 12, 2018 to the library circulation desk to earn Mitchell swag.  Online students can submit their crossword puzzle via online to the Distance Learning Department.  The Distance Learning Department will mail the student his or her Mitchell swag.  The objective is for faculty, staff and students to learn about the OER movement.

Participants will learn about OERs and how to create a successful OER event. Presented by a librarian and an instructional designer in the DL department.

Monday, March 27, 2017

Title:  Student OER Scavenger Hunt

Location:  Mitchell Community College’s

Time:  9:00-12:00 pm

Description:  Mitchell Community College’s students will engage in an OER Scavenger Hunt.  The Student Government Association (SGA) will distribute the scavenger hunt to the students in the Student Union.  The scavenger hunt contains OER questions such as what year was the term open educational resources created?  Students must visit various campus locations to obtain the answers to the OER questions.  The SGA members will be throughout campus helping students with the questions.  Once the student has completed the scavenger hunt, the student will return to the Student Union to have their scavenger hunt verified to earn MCC swag.  For students who can not attend the OER Scavenger Hunt during 9:00-12:00 pm, an OER display will be created and shown in the J.P. Mildred Huskins Library.  Students can come by the circulation desk to collect an OER crossword puzzle.  By using the OER display, students can complete the crossword puzzle and earn MCC swag.  The objective is for students to learn about the OER movement.

Title:  OER Hour

Location:  Mitchell Community College’s J.P. Mildred Huskins Library

Time: 12:20-1:20 pm

Description: During Mitchell Community College’s community hour, faculty and staff can visit the library to learn and discuss open educational resources while enjoying hot chocolate and donut holes.  Faculty and staff will view open educational resource videos, will have access to smart devices to search for open educational resources, and will leave OER hour with a handout defining an OER, list of OER resources, and professional development opportunities.

Title:  OER Workshop

Location: Mitchell Community College’s J.P. Mildred Huskins Library

Time:  12:20-1:20 pm

Description:  During Mitchell Community College’s community hour, faculty members will attend a hands-on workshop to locate open educational resources for their courses.  The objective is for faculty members to locate OERs to reuse, revise, remix, retain and redistribute.
