This guide illustrates how to identify fake news stories and how to fact-check and evaluate them.

Bias Defined

Often the news media is accused of being biased, but what does that really mean.  According to the Cambridge Dictionary bias is defined as "the action of supporting or opposing a particular person or thing in an unfair way because of allowing personal opinions to influence your judgment." 

Personal Bias & the News

When reading the news be aware of your own personal biases as it may color your interpretation of news sources.  To combat fake news and bias be sure to read many different types of news stories to gain a full understanding of the stories, check the facts and be aware of all types of biases.
