Microsoft PowerPoint is a program that allows users to create multimedia presentations. Access to PowerPoint is available through Office 365 for Mitchell Community College students, faculty, and staff.

How to Cite Sources in a PowerPoint Presentation

When adding citations and references to presentations, you should follow the same guidelines for in-text citations and Works Cited pages as you would for a paper. Works Cited or References can be shared on the last slide of your presentation.

Always verify your instructor's specific instructions first.

How to Avoid Death by PowerPoint


"Death by PowerPoint" is a phrase used to describe a presentation that is boring, confusing, and uninteresting due to its poor design and delivery. Here are some tips for keeping your presentation engaging and informative:

  • Keep slides simple. Limit text on the slide, so your audience spends time listening to and absorbing what you're saying, rather than reading your slides.
  • Keep up the pace. To maintain the attention of the audience and avoid rambling, set timers on your slide so they automatically advance.
  • Be intentional with animations. Too many animations can make presentations confusing. Use purposeful animations to draw attention to your main point, not all of them.
  • Make it accessible. Use contrasting colors, clear fonts, and alt text for images to ensure your presentation is easily viewed by everyone.
