The Browse options differ by collection:
- Census
- The primary U.S. Federal Census search page does not offer a browse option, but...
- The individual census datasets (e.g., 1870 U.S. Federal Census) have a right-side browse option with the following fields
- First select a State or Territory from the list included in that year.
- Then choose a County from the list included in that year.
- Then click a Township name to see all the pages of that year's census for that specific location.
- Books
- The primary Books search page does not offer a browse option, but...
- From the Publications page, when a title has been selected to search, the Browse options will appear in the right side of the title search page and typically include links to the following sections of the title:
- Front matter
- Title page
- Chapters / first page of the body
- Back matter
- Revolutionary War
- On the right side of the search page:
- Choose first from the First Letter of Surname field.
- Then choose from the Surname Range listings.
- Further refine the range of Surnames that you would like to see, clicking on the range to view the associated documents.
- The first image for that range will load in the Interactive Image Viewer with the Filmstrip view of thumbnails open at the bottom for easy navigation between pages.
- Freedman's Bank
- On the right side of the search page:
- Choose the State name.
- Then select the Year of the records that you would like to review.
- The first image for that location and year will load in the Interactive Image Viewer with the Filmstrip view of thumbnails open at the bottom for easy navigation between pages.
