HeritageQuest Online: Maps

About the Maps

We are very excited to present a new access point for the beloved Maps long found in HeritageQuest Online. Originally published in Map Guide to the U.S. Federal Censuses, 1790-1920, by William Thorndale and William Dollarhide in 1987, these easy-to-access maps provide unique insight into how county and state boundaries changed as the country's boundaries expanded, and populations grew and migrated.

This interactive map will provide exclusive access to these valuable maps...

Hover your mouse over a state to see statehood facts.

Click the state to launch a layer with all available maps; the oldest map displays by default. Click on a year to the left to see the affiliated map. Click the "Downloadable State Guide" link at the bottom of the layer to launch Ancestry.com's multi-page reference document for that state.

To see U.S. national maps by decade, click on the "Or see the entire U.S. by decade" link on the main Maps tab page. The oldest map displays by default. Click on a year to the left to see the affiliated map.
