Reconsideration of Materials

Questions regarding the suitability of materials in the collection should be directed to the Director of Library Services.  Challenged materials will remain in circulation during the reconsideration process.

Any person or group who wishes for materials to be reconsidered will be asked to read the library's collection development plan and complete the Request for Reconsideration of Library Materials form.  The form can be requested from the Director of Library Services.  Upon submission of the form, a Library Advisory Committee will meet to examine the resource within five (5) working days to discuss the material and assign reading/viewing sections.  The committee will follow the procedures outlined below and render a decision within 30 working days.

1. Read, view or listen to the material in its entirety.
2. Read published reviews of the material.
3. Evaluate the section(s) to be reconsidered relative to the context of the entire work.
4. Submit a report of the evaluation and recommendation for disposition of the material to the Director of Library Services and the individual or group making the request for reconsideration.
5. Should the individual or group making the request for reconsideration wish to appeal the decision of the committee, the matter will be referred to the Vice President for Learning. The final decision will reside with the Vice President for Learning.
